The duration of results lasts for around 3-4 months on average. After several treatment you may only need to come for treatments once or twice per year.

Botulinum toxin works to minimise the muscle activity by blocking the signals to your nerves to the injected muscles. As the muscles relax, fine lines and wrinkles will become less noticeable, however still with movement.

Anti-wrinkle injections are used to address signs of ageing which includes smoothing fine lines and wrinkles on the frown lines, forehead, eyes (crow's feet), nose (bunny lines), upper lip (smokers lines) and neck. The treatment can also be used for a subtle brow lift and lip flip, smoothing a cobbled chin, as well as reducing a gummy smile and slimming the jawline.

Botox has also been used for decades in the medical industry for multiple conditions. At BG Aesthetics we can treat bruxism (teeth grinding) and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) with botox.

After an anti-wrinkle treatment, most patients will notice results around the third or fourth day. Full results will be visible within 10 to 14 days.

At 2 weeks you will be scheduled in for a review appointment. This is to see how well the botox has worked as everyone's anatomy is different which means the units of botox administered will vary. A touch-up will be given if necessary.

If any medication, supplements or conditions have changed since your consultation you must make the practitioner aware as certain medications can effect the treatment.

It is recommended to avoid alcohol, caffeine and direct sunlight for 24 hours before the procedure as these will make you more prone to redness and bruising. Likewise, do not take any blood thinning medication such as aspirin as these will also encourage bruising.

There is no downtime with anti-wrinkle injections and you can return to most activities immediately after treatment.

You must stay upright for four hours after treatment to avoid swelling, bruising and movement of the botulinum toxin. Do not touch or put make-up on the treated area for at least 12 hours afterwards, and avoid exercise for 24 hours. Also avoid heat including a hot shower and steam rooms for 48 hours.

Both men and women aged 20 and above are suitable for anti-wrinkle injections. It is best suited for those who are looking to treat fine lines and wrinkles, as well as prevent them. For this reason, anti-wrinkle injections are becoming more and more popular with the younger generation.

You will not be suitable for this treatment if you are under the age of 18, pregnant or breastfeeding, have an infection, have an extreme musculoskeletal condition, have a blood clotting condition or have had a stroke or Bell's palsy in the past. Those taking anticoagulant and/or herbal medicine such as St John's Wort are also not suitable.

Most patients do not find the treatment painful as there is only a few injections that are completed within a couple of minutes. If you are concerned about there being discomfort you can numb the area an hour before, however this is usually not necessary.

As with any injectable treatment, redness, swelling and bruising are potential side effects although not common. You may experience mild pain and tenderness in the treated areas which will subside within a couple of days. More rare side effects include headaches, neck pain, temporary eyelid or brow ptosis and eye irritation.
