To minimise the chances of bruising from injection it is best to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, or any other blood-thinning medication 1 week prior to your appointment. Alcohol and caffeine can also contribute to bruising so it is best to avoid these 24-48 hours before also. Arnica tablets can be taken up to 5 days before your appointment to help prevent bruising.

Two days before your appointment avoid waxing and topical products such as retinol, Tretinoin and glycolic acids on the area to be treated.

Please arrive to your appointment with clean, make-up free skin and ensure you are hydrated and are not on an empty stomach.

The practitioner will go through the aftercare and hand you a leaflet after your dermal filler appointment. You will be expected to not touch, massage or apply make-up to the treated area for 24 hours. Avoid blood thinners, intense heat, alcoholic beverages and strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after the treatment to avoid bruising.

You may have some redness, swelling and/or bruising after your procedure. Arnica cream will be provided to help with bruising, and a lip ice pack will be provided for all lip procedures to help with swelling.

Dermal filler is usually settled within 2 weeks, however with more invasive treatments such as Russian lips it can take up to 4 weeks so it is best to plan around important events.

Please notify your practitioner immediately if you have severe or increasing pain, any blanching in the treated area, any fever or chills.

The treatment will involve the area being numbed with a topical anaesthetic to ease discomfort. A Hyaluronic Acid gel is then carefully injected via. a cannula. A cannula is used to reduce the risk of complications and to make the treatment more comfortable for patients. The treatment only takes around 30-45 minutes and leaves immediate results.

Serious complications from the tear trough treatment are exceedingly rare, and normally the only side effect is mild bruising or swelling which will subside quickly. Your practitioner will cover possible side effects and risks during the consultation and aftercare.

Most people who are experiencing under eye bags, dark circles and a hollow appearance around the lowers eyes can benefit from dermal fillers. However, occasionally PRP injections or skin booster injections such as Jalupro or Lumieyes are a better alternative for those who are concerned about crepey skin or pigmentation. Tear trough treatment is not suitable for patients who have water/fluid retention around the eyes.

You are not suitable if you are under 18 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of anaphylaxis, have an infection in the area or are taking anti-coagulant or blood clotting medication.
