WHAT ARE FAT DISSOLVING INJECTIONS?
Hand Rejuvenation is a treatment using carefully placed dermal filler as an ideal solution for patients who are concerned with the skin quality of their hands or their veiny appearance. The filler is injected superficially into the dermal layer of the skin to add youthfulness to the hands, which can last as long as 2 years!

Most dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid which is naturally produced by the skin. When injected, the hyaluronic acid will add volume and increase moisture levels that help to plump and smooth. The filler is injected via. either a needle or a cannula depending on the area to be treated.
- 02
Fillers are not permanent and will gradually break down. The longevity of dermal filler is dependant on several factors including the area being treated, client age and skin type, the type of filler and more. Lip filler usually lasts on average 6-12 months, whereas facial filler lasts longer between 1-2 years on average.
- 03
Yes. Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid which can be reversed with an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. Injecting this enzyme into the treated area will dissolve the particles of hyaluronic acid.
- 04
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied approximately 20 minutes before treatment to ease any discomfort. Most dermal fillers also contain lidocaine (numbing agent), which means that the vast majority of patients find the injections tolerable with slight initial discomfort.
BG Aesthetics also offers a dental block which you can add on to any lip filler treatment for £30. This numbs all the layers of the lip for up to an hour and can be more effective than topical anaesthetic, with minimal-no pain.

As with any treatment, there are possible side effects and risks. Immediately after treatment and during healing there may be bruising and/or swelling around the injection site. In order to prevent bruising we recommend avoiding alcohol, caffeine and any blood-thinning medication at least 24 hours before and after. You can also take Arnica tablets up to 5 days prior to your appointment, as well as Arnica cream after your appointment. The swelling will subside typically within a few days.
After your appointment you will be provided with a pot of Arnica cream to apply, and with lip filler appointments you will also receive an ice pack to help with swelling.
Severe complications from dermal fillers are uncommon, however the practitioner will discuss all possible risks in your consultation.

The Russian lip technique is used to achieve height on the lip with a flatter side view in comparison to standard lip techniques. The trend began due to the desire for lips that are larger in volume without the worry of the 'duck lips' look. Filler is injected vertically into multiple injection points and dragged upward from the based to the top of the lip, rather than horizontally with traditional lip augmentation. The dermal filler is mainly focused around the centre to achieve the heart-shaped look.
This technique is only suitable for patients with none or minimal filler already.
Please note that this technique is slightly more invasive so patients can be more prone to swelling and/or bruising.

To minimise the chances of bruising from injection it is best to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, or any other blood-thinning medication 1 week prior to your appointment. Alcohol and caffeine can also contribute to bruising so it is best to avoid these 24-48 hours before also. Arnica tablets can be taken up to 5 days before your appointment to help prevent bruising.
Two days before your appointment avoid waxing and topical products such as retinol, Tretinoin and glycolic acids on the area to be treated.
If you have previously suffered from cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores so be prepared to treat these if this occurs.
Please arrive to your appointment with clean, make-up free skin and ensure you are hydrated and are not on an empty stomach.

The practitioner will go through the aftercare and hand you a leaflet after your dermal filler appointment. You will be expected to not touch, massage or apply make-up to the treated area for 24 hours. Avoid blood thinners, intense heat, alcoholic beverages and strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after the treatment to avoid bruising.
You may have some redness, swelling and/or bruising after your procedure. Arnica cream will be provided to help with bruising, and a lip ice pack will be provided for all lip procedures to help with swelling.
Dermal filler is usually settled within 2 weeks, however with more invasive treatments such as Russian lips it can take up to 4 weeks so it is best to plan around important events.
Please notify your practitioner immediately if you have severe or increasing pain, any blanching in the treated area, any fever or chills.
